Engineering / GIS & GeoAI Full-time Canada

Technical Project Manager (GIS & GeoAI)

Canada

Role overview

The Technical Project Manager (GIS & GeoAI) owns delivery of complex geospatial and AI-enabled software projects at SPARC Global. You will lead cross-functional teams spanning GIS engineering, application development, and data science — setting technical direction, managing stakeholders, and ensuring solutions are delivered on scope, on time, and to production quality.

This role suits a hands-on technical leader with deep experience in mapping platforms, cloud-native architectures, and Agile delivery across defence, government, natural resources, and other enterprise domains.

Key responsibilities

  • Own project scope, timeline, and delivery for GIS and GeoAI application engagements from kick-off through production release.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including GIS, backend, frontend, mobile, and AI/ML engineers.
  • Define and guide application architecture decisions across web, mobile, microservices, and API integration layers.
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships, including escalation handling and expectation alignment.
  • Run Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives — and maintain delivery visibility in Jira or equivalent tooling.
  • Support pre-sales activities including solution design, technical proposals, and effort estimation when required.
  • Ensure spatial data pipelines, mapping stacks, and AI model integrations meet enterprise security and performance standards.

Qualifications & skills

  • B.Tech / BE or equivalent; Master's degree in a relevant discipline is an asset.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development and/or technical project management.
  • Substantial hands-on experience delivering GIS, remote sensing, or GeoAI-based applications.
  • Demonstrated project management ownership on geospatial projects — scope, timeline, and delivery accountability.
  • Proficiency with mapping technologies such as OpenLayers, GeoServer, PostGIS, QGIS, or the ArcGIS/Esri stack.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern application architectures.
  • Comfort writing production code when project needs require hands-on technical contribution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience delivering projects in defence, government, healthcare, transportation, agriculture, or natural resources.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML model integration into production geospatial systems.
  • Pre-sales or proposal support experience with client-facing presentations.
  • Exposure to Kanban-based delivery models alongside Scrum.

Why join SPARC Global

  • Lead high-impact GeoAI projects for government and enterprise clients across North America.
  • Work at the intersection of geospatial technology, cloud engineering, and applied AI.
  • Hands-on technical leadership role with ownership of architecture and delivery outcomes.
  • Collaborative, growth-oriented culture with direct exposure to senior leadership.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
